The Record Linkage Tool E-PIX® was extensively evaluated in the context of a master’s thesis at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. The evaluation focused on  the performance of processing large numbers of patients. The results have now been published in the Journal of Translational Medicine in the publication “Assessment of scalability and performance of the record linkage tool E-PIX® in managing multi-million patients in research projects at a large university hospital in Germany”.

The performance tests were conducted with the E-PIX version 2.8.2. For this purpose anonymized data based on real patients were used. It was shown that E-PIX is suitable for managing multi-million patients in large research projects. More than 30 million patient datasets could be managed in one instance with the given system. It could be shown that new registrations can be made in significantly less than 1 second for colletions of 10 million patients. Further optimizations were found, so that an increase in performance was achieved from E-PIX version 2.9 on.
